ZANZIBAR- Stone Town

We had one evening, one night and a half day in Stone Town. Stone Town is a UNESCO site because of its strong ties to the slave trade. This is a photo of Tippu Tipp's home. He was a renowned arab trader who started trading slaves and ivory at age 18.

Described as charming, we found it to be quite run down with garbage piles in many of the the side streets. Not quaint in the least, but the old doors were definitely impressive.

We visited the Market in the evening but opted to dine back at our hotel. The next morning we got up early for a self guided walking tour of the old town.

The only other people up and about were school kids and their parents.

Timing was perfect as the morning is the coolest and quietest part of the day.
