Africa - Kenya - Hazards of Traveling in Africa

Hazard #1 - theft.
When we checked into our lodge in the middle of the Samburu Narional Park, I thought that I would send our families a notification that we were all right via our satellite beacon, since we have no internet here. I walked out onto our deck, turned it on, set it to transmit and then stepped back into the room for 5 seconds (literally!!) to grab a book to read while I was waiting for the satellite link. One monkey had already flipped the beacon over and would have taken off with it, except that a second one was already fighting with him for its possession.

Hazard #2 burnout
We saw so many animals on our first two game drives - ostrich, warthogs, impallas, dik dik ( super cute miniature deer), giraffes, lions, leopard, elephants, zebras, tortoise, crocodiles, and innumerable birds - that I cannot imagine my smile muscles lasting for a month + of wild life viewing!! Current count is 19 lions, 3 leopards and one cheetah ( and the cheater was not Tiger Woods).

Hazard #3 - Blubber
We cooked for ourselves most of the time in Rarotonga. Food in Bhutan was simple, tasty and healthy. Food in India was just way, way too good. Nairobi food was just passable, but now the food keeps getting better all the time!! Not sure if I will fit in a seat by the time we come home!

Hazard #4 - Pollution
Ok, this one could actually kill me. Fortunately, the roads in Kenya are much better developed than Bhutan and WAY less polluted than India!
