Hiking and Biking in Kenya

We started the day riding mountain bikes through Hell's Gate National Park as our driver drove slowly behind us ready to put the vehicle between us and any buffalo that were grazing close to the road. It was really fun to be biking past zebras, gazelles, warthogs, and buffalo. Buffalo are the biggest danger to cyclists, but only if you get between members of the herd crossing the road. There are no wild cats, wild dogs or elephants in  Hell's Gate.

We went for a canyon walk with a park ranger. The water level from the rains a few days ago had receded enough that we could walk in the middle of the canyon without getting too wet.

There is lots of rock climbing in Hell's Gate.....but we didn't bring our climbing gear.

Next was a hike on Crescent Island, where Out of Africa was filmed. We enjoyed watching the Masaii giraffes, wildebeest and ungulates.

We also saw flamingoes.

We walked too close and they all took flight. Beautiful pink wings above us ....ahh!
