Interesting Cook Island Facts

1) The Chinese gov't has paid for/built all of the Justice and Police Buildings in the Cook Islands. Wonder what they want in return? For the Cook Islands not to recognize Twaiwan as a separate nation.

2) There are no dogs on Aitutaki. It was believed at one time that they transmitted leprosy to humans. They were outlawed when the daughter of a high ranking  tribal chief was bitten by a dog. 

3) Religion is popular. Aitutaki has 11 different churches for a population of 1800. Most places in Aitutaki are closed Sundays and there is strong opposition to Sunday flights in/out of Aitutaki. 

4)  Mom's keep their kids safe on scooters by tying a long scarf around their kid and themselves. 

5) Obesity and diseases associated with poor diet choices such as diabetes are key health concerns
